As of September 1st, 2019, Commercial License holders may be eligible to attend traffic school if the CDL driver was driving for non-commercial purposes. For example, if the CDL holder was driving a personal vehicle during off business hours.

The State of Arizona offers two distinct traffic school courses for drivers. It's important to determine which course you need to take when enrolling in traffic school.

Note that the Arizona Defensive Driving Course is different from Traffic Survival School.

Drivers in Arizona can enroll in a Defensive Driving School (also referred to as traffic school) once every 12 months.

Before accessing your Arizona traffic school course, we require a copy of your driver's license and your citation. While we typically approve accounts within minutes, please allow up to 2 hours for approval.

To expedite the process, ensure your documents are clear and legible.

You can easily upload your documents safely and securely directly in the learning platform. Alternatively, you can email them too. These instructions are easy to follow once you're logged in.

The state requires the Arizona Defensive Driving Course to be 4 hours long for certification and approval.

An advantage of taking our online course is the flexibility to stop and start whenever you like. Our system will save your progress and remember where you left off, so there's no need to complete the entire course in one sitting (unless you prefer to). This allows you to work at your own pace, making the process more convenient.

Yes. Arizona law stipulates that you must finish your course at least seven days before your court date. If you need more time, you can reach out to the court listed on your ticket to ask for an extension. After obtaining an approved extension, please notify us with the updated court or due date so we can adjust your account.

If you are within seven days of your court date, you must contact the court and request an extension. Arizona law requires you to complete your course seven days before your court date. For a first-time extension request, most courts will grant an additional 30 to 45 days. After obtaining your approved extension, you can register for the course with the new court/due date or update your account accordingly.

If you have already received an extension and need more time, you will need to contact the court again. While additional extensions may be granted, they usually require extraordinary circumstances such as illness or financial hardship. Ultimately, the decision to grant more time is at the court's discretion.

The State of Arizona mandates that all defensive driving schools collect certain fees on behalf of the state and the courts.

The fees are as follows:

Course Fee: $18.99
State Fee: $24 - Required to dismiss a ticket
State Surcharge: $45 - Required to dismiss a ticket
Court Diversion Fee: (varies by court) - Required to dismiss a ticket
Processing Fee: $9.99

Defensive Driving Authority has no hidden fees. We disclose all fees upfront without requiring you to start the registration process. Use our Arizona price tool to get your full price before registering and paying.

If you choose to take an Arizona Defensive Driving course, you DO NOT need to pay any fines to the court. The state and court fees we collect during registration are the only fees required to dismiss your ticket.

Occasionally, students mistakenly pay both the court fine and enroll in the Arizona Defensive Driving course, which can lead to the rejection of their traffic school completion. Paying the court fine indicates that you are pleading guilty to the violation and do not plan to attend traffic school, resulting in points being added to your driving record. If you opt for traffic school, the school will collect the necessary state and court fees to dismiss your ticket. These fees may be similar to the court fine, but attending defensive driving school prevents points from being added to your record, saving you money on car insurance premiums in the long run.

If you have paid both the court fine and the traffic school fee, contact the court immediately to request a refund and withdrawal of your guilty plea. Failure to do so will result in your traffic school completion being rejected. You will likely need to file a "motion" with the court, which is a formal written request to a judge. Do not proceed with the course until the court approves your refund request. Once your motion is approved, you may continue with your class.

If you have any additional questions about mistaken double payments, contact the court listed on your ticket for more information and instructions.
